It is a known fact that the entirety of the Himalayas is more than 1.5 million square miles. It extends between Tibet in China and India’s north-eastern state of Sikkim. But what is lesser known is the fact that there are numerous mysteries surrounding this area of land that have baffled scientists for centuries.

The lake has been attracting tourists since 2004 when it became relatively accessible due to the construction of roads leading to its rim and water supply system for visitors’ use.

    Lake Tso Rolpa is a beautiful but terrifying lake in the Himalayas. Mountains surround it, and it’s filled with the mummified remains of the dead. The mummies are found floating on its surface, where they have been preserved for hundreds of years by its extreme coldness.

    The most famous example is that of a little boy named Shoni who was found in 2003 when his body was pulled from the lake. His skin had turned black due to him being covered in ash (from cremations), so scientists were able to determine he died around 1750 A.D..
