My pain may be the reason for somebody’s laugh. But my laugh must never be the reason for somebody’s pain.
– Sir Charlie Chaplin
Though many years into the field and more achievements later in the year 1975 the New Year Honours, Charles Chaplin was appointed a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE). The most honorary award an individual could get.
On the anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s birth, explore some surprising and painful fact about the renowned silent-film star.
“Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot.”
– Sir Charlie Chaplin
Grave robbers made off with Chaplin’s coffin which is very rare incident and quite bizarre one.
Approximately two months after Chaplin’s death; some random two robbers stole his coffin from the Swiss cemetery and sent his wife a $600,000 ransom demand. But she refused to pay thinking it’s a prank because no one can think of stealing a coffin, she took the incident seriously later when those two robbers allegedly threatened her kids. The bungling robbers were caught later by the police, however, and the coffin was recovered safely. It was then reburied with all the rituals in a theft-proof concrete vault so that the incident doesn’t repeat.
Wishing a very Happy birthday to the legend actor of all time Chaplin sir.
